ROTC talks wins, losses, prepares for competitions

Combining values of the Capstone Creed and the U.S. Army, members of the University of Alabama Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) are consistently striving for excellence. They have achieved high scores in the classroom, and now they look to do the same at their competitions.  


Lost in the food desert

At 9 p.m. in Alberta City, the Piggly Wiggly grocery store closes for the evening. The next closest store is Winn-Dixie, almost two miles down the road. For residents with a car, the commute is no problem, and fresh food is easy to access. But without a car, it is more than a 30-minute walk down University Boulevard. After dark, inhabitants of Alberta City are trapped in what is known as a food desert.


House backs Sunday alcohol sales

Tuscaloosa residents may soon see a change in county laws that ban the sale of alcohol on Sundays. The state House of Representatives approved a bill Tuesday authorizing a vote on allowing the sale of alcohol on Sundays, a bill sponsored by state Rep.
