Moe's Bar B Que offers delicious food and drinksBy Caroline Giddis | 02/19/2016 5:57pm
It's a popular statement among friends all over Tuscaloosa: “Let’s go to Moe’s." With impressive live music acts and killer drink specials, it’s no wonder Moe’s Original Bar B Que has become a staple of Tuscaloosa nightlife.
“Great food, great booze, and just an overall a great atmosphere: that’s what we try to push as an establishment,” said Elliot Salls, the bar manager of Moe's.
The rustic wooden atmosphere is relaxing and inviting to families and college students alike.
“I think it honestly starts with our food, that’s what brings people in here,” said Salls. What makes the Tuscaloosa Moe’s special however, is that you don’t have to leave when the food’s gone.
“Besides [our location] and Auburn, all the Moe’s that you go to nation wide are primarily food based, but we are huge in the bar scene,” said Salls. "Our bar kills out kitchen.”
If you happen to be downtown around 10 PM Thursday through Saturday, there will most likely be a line waiting outside that winds around the corner and down the block.
The impressive lineup of live music starts on Thursdays and many times doesn’t stop until 2AM on Saturdays. Acts in the past have included Rick Henson's Soul Tide, BadStick, and pianist Nic Snow. Every act draws a great crowd of new and dedicated local fans.
There’s a reason to go to Moe’s every night of the week, which is why it’s become such a favorite. Monday nights there are $1 Bud Light drafts and Bingo; Tuesday is $1 tequila shot night; happy hour lasts all night on Wednesdays, a well kept secret; and Thursdays offer $3 32 ounce wells, a deal that can’t be beat.
According to Salls, there’s a new app in Tuscaloosa called Hooked Deals that offers great savings at many bars and restaurants in town, and it just went live this week.
When it comes to the drink Moe’s is known for, Salls had an answer: a milkshake with Rum called the Bushwhacker. It’s like a milkshake with rum, but better. A “Who dat?” is one of their most popular shots, most likely with New Orleans Saints fans.
Moe’s recently revamped their booths and back room, adding more open standing space, and ensuring that they can hold a larger capacity. Complete with its own bar, pool table and psychedelic mural, the back room is typically only open Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, but will unlock if the crowd is particularly big on a Saturday.
Moe’s Original Bar B Que has established itself as the go-to for friends and maker of memories in Tuscaloosa, as if the line out the door 4 nights a week doesn’t give that away. It’s a classic.
