The University of Alabama has issued a warning for the potential for severe weather this evening in an email sent out to students, faculty and staff at 6:19 p.m. today.
The email states that there is a high potential for severe weather to occur in Tuscaloosa and the surrounding area from between midnight and 6 a.m. Thursday, which could include thunderstorms, hail, damaging winds and tornadoes.
The email states that if a tornado warning is issued, you should seek shelter immediately. The North Campus, East Campus and Magnolia Parking Deck storm shelters will be open to all students, faculty and staff if a tornado watch is issued. The Magnolia Parking Deck storm shelter is able to take pets with their owners.
According to weather.com, while a second round of storms is expected to miss all of Alabama and most of Mississippi on Friday, storms will return to the state on Saturday and Sunday. Although thunderstorms are expected to miss Tuscaloosa on Saturday, they will likely still hit Birmingham and most of Alabama. On Sunday, Tuscaloosa is expected to see severe thunderstorms, as a storm front moves across the nation.
