UA Law School symposium to discuss community policing

WHAT: Redefining Clearly Established Rights after Ferguson: § 1983 Claims and Community Policing from Hope v. Pelzer to Kingsley v. Hendrickson Symposium.

There will be several sessions throughout the day featuring guest speakers and a police panel.

WHO: University of Alabama School of Law

WHEN: Friday, April 1, 8 a.m. – 3p.m.

WHERE: Bedsole Moot Courtroom, University of Alabama Law Center

WHY: “The purpose of the symposium is to encourage balanced discussion on the controversial topic of community policing,” said Shalyn Smith, Editor-in-Chief of the Alabama Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Law Review, who was involved in coordinating the event.

“We will bring academics and practitioners together to discuss current events and practical solutions. I hope students and the community will see the benefit of coming together to find balanced solutions to the problems plaguing our country.”
