TPD: Investigation continues after police transport suspect back to Tuscaloosa

A suspect has been taken into police custody in the Tuscaloosa shooting case after he turned himself into a business in Jasper, Ala.Tuesday morning.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department will not release the name or picture of the suspect until they file charges against him. Tuscaloosa Police Chief Steven Anderson said they would not file charges until TPD’s investigation has been completed to their satisfaction.

“Our investigation is continues and we’re doing some things to follow up on some findings, but we feel certain that we will be able to connect the dots with this individual and the incidents from last night,” Tuscaloosa Police Chief Steven Anderson said in a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

The findings are based on evidence collected through a search warrant and tips from Crime Stoppers, he said later in the briefing.

As of 1 p.m., Anderson said the suspect should be in Tuscaloosa or minutes away from arriving. As far as Anderson knew, Jasper Police did not recover a weapon when the suspect was taken into custody.

The suspect has not said anything about a motive. Anderson said they are still investigating a connection between the shootings downtown early Tuesday morning and the shooting in Northport late Monday night.

There has been no update from the hospital on the condition of any of victims.
