College students should consider eating less meat

I don’t believe in dieting, but I do believe in my diet. I don’t believe in exclusion; I believe in restraint. I eat a mainly plant-based diet, but I also know that the best way to recover from a long Saturday night is a chicken biscuit from Holler & Dash. I try to be environmentally conscious and buy ethically farmed products when I do cook meat.

Governments should be careful creating hate speech laws

On June 20, the Sussex Police Force, of Sussex, England, posted a tweet  that would go on to draw mixed reactions from those responding. It read “This man used Facebook to express his hatred for Muslims & has gone to prison #WeStandTogether against hate crimes." In Germany,  twenty-three police departments raided thirty-six homes across fourteen German states in search of suspected ‘hate posters,' and removed their Internet-connected devices.

The AHCA represents more of the same

In 2009, the Democrats passed the Affordable Care Act, now known both affectionately and pejoratively as Obamacare. The bill passed through Congress without a single Republican vote, and was signed into law early in the term of a newly-elected Democratic president. Then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) infamously said that Congress had to pass the bill to find out what was in it, and then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) used many of the legislative tactics progressives now deride the Republicans for utilizing in the latest healthcare debate.

White people must examine their own racist attitudes

If you’re white, you’re probably racist. I don’t necessarily mean you say openly bigoted things or that you like spending your weekends defending Confederate monuments (though you might be that brand of racist, too), I just mean that you probably have a lot of internalized racist beliefs that you most likely haven’t spent a lot of time unpacking.
