Homecoming

Step show brings flair to homecoming week festivities

Homecoming is a time when the University comes together to celebrate unique UA traditions. From crowning the homecoming queen, to painting the town red, to dance and step competitions, students all support each other for a fun week at the Capstone. This year’s homecoming hasn’t been any different; there have been many activities, which started Sunday with the Roll Tide Run and will continue through Friday with the traditional homecoming pep rally and NPHC homecoming step show. The NPHC homecoming step show, which has been a homecoming tradition for 30 years, will be held Friday, Oct.

The real victim is campus

For the past few years, allegations and videotaped instances of racism have surfaced at colleges across the country. However, the University of Alabama has maintained a solid position as the frontrunner regarding campus inequality, at least as far as national news outlets are concerned.

Alabama uses 2nd-half surge to beat Arkansas

Going into the half on Saturday, it wasn’t clear what team was going to win. Alabama trailed 7-3 but come the end of the game, it pulled through with a 27-14 win. Alabama put three up on the board first after a 24-yard field goal by Adam Griffith, but the Razorbacks were the first with a touchdown. Santos Ramirez intercepted Alabama quarterback Jake Coker’s pass, bringing Arkansas to Alabama’s 12-yard line.

It has to be a home for it to be a homecoming

When I think of going back to my home in Charlotte, North Carolina, I have flashbacks of the long exhausting drive through four states, and I get tense as I think of the thirty-minute period dodging cars in Atlanta. But I know I would do it again and again to be back in my home, sitting at the dinner table with my family talking over the day’s events, as our dog, Dixie, sniffs for dropped crumbs. When I go home, I get to go back to a feeling of comfort and acceptance in a place that was a stronghold of my past.

University gets "Tide Together"

This weekend, the University of Alabama will have many exciting homecoming activities to look forward to. The theme for this year’s homecoming is “Tide Together: Celebrating the Capstone Spirit.” The events will begin on Thursday, Nov.

Seniors prep for homecoming

With the regular season coming to a close, many of Alabama’s stars will be playing in their last homecoming game and Iron Bowl in the next couple of weekends. Alabama coach Nick Saban talked about the senior class in his Wednesday press conference.

Tide Division new to Homecoming

Homecoming week this year will begin Nov. 16 with the 25th Annual Roll Tide Run and conclude with the crowning of the 2014 Homecoming Queen during halftime of the Alabama vs. West Carolina football game Nov. 22. Samantha Walker, the 2014 SGA homecoming executive director, said in the past students could compete for homecoming with large or small organizations. However, she said this year the University has made an organization called Crimson Division along with another group referred to as the Tide Division.
