Gymnastics goes into championships with high scores

The University of Alabama gymnastics team took first place at the 2016 NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional one Saturday and will advance to the NCAA Championships Semifinals on Friday, April 15 in Ft. Worth, Texas, marking its 34th consecutive NCAA Championship appearance.

Alabama holds an NCAA-best 31 regional titles and six National Championship titles.

The third-ranked Crimson Tide claims a season-high score of 197.750. No. 1 Oklahoma holds a season-high 198.075, and No. 2 LSU holds a season-high 197.925.

Going into the championships, here are Alabama’s season-high scores:


Regular Season

Vault: 49.400 (versus Arkansas and Georgia)

*Uneven Bars: 49.600 (at PSU quad meet)

*Balance Beam: 49.550 (versus West Virginia)

*Floor Exercise: 49.500 (versus Missouri and Georgia)

Overall: 197.550 (versus Georgia)

SEC Championship

*Vault: 49.425

The Crimson Tide will compete in the evening sessions of the semifinals, starting at 7 p.m. CT in the Fort Worth Convention Center Arena.

No. 10 California
