Undefeated start the season ends for Alabama women's tennisBy Zach Fidel | 02/09/2018 8:24pm
University of Alabama women’s tennis undefeated season is no more. Alabama fell to No. 24 Washington, 6-1 on Friday night in Seattle.
The Crimson Tide started off fast as Smith Hinton and Jacqueline Pelletier were the first pair to win in doubles play. However, the Huskies fought back and won the last two matches to take the early 1-0 lead.
Unlike in double’s play, Alabama did not have the fast start that they hoped for when it was time for singles. Washington’s Vanessa Wong was the first one done with singles when she defeated Hinton pushing the Huskies lead to 2-0. The Crimson Tide didn’t get on the board until sophomore Ann Selim defeated Kenadi Hance.
It was too little, too late for Alabama as Alexis Prokopuik clinched the match for Washington when she defeated freshman Kylie Moulin. This loss brings Alabama to 9-1 on the young season.
The Crimson Tide will stay in Seattle for a Saturday doubleheader against Portland and Eastern Washington.
