Black Warrior Film Festival opens submissionsBy Trevor Hendry | 11/15/2017 3:42pm
The Black Warrior Film Festival is now accepting submissions for their 2018 run. There is no fee to submit from Nov. 1 - Dec. 15.
The festival, which will take place March 2 - 3, is an annual student-led exposition and competition aimed at highlighting student filmmakers.
From Dec. 16 - Jan. 10, it will cost $20 to submit and from Jan. 11 - Feb. 1 the submission fee will be $40.
Films must be 30 minutes or less, and both narrative and documentary films are accepted. Narrative films must be based on an original screenplay.
The films will be judged on the merit of vision and style, having an original and creative concept, and displaying technical skill or interesting aesthetic.
For the first round, each film will be screened at least twice for a panel of faculty judges, film festival programmers and industry professionals. The final judging panel will have two representatives from the C&IS Board of Visitors as well as other media professionals.
Free submissions are also open for the Holle Award for Excellence in Filmmaking. The top five submissions for the award are guaranteed a spot in the Black Warrior Film Festival. Filmmakers are encouraged to submit for the award as it will maximize the chance of the film being screened.
