Review: Rainbow Kitten Surprise at Druid City Music Hall

Under a blanket of blue, green and white lights, indie alternative band Rainbow Kitten Surprise and opener Elliot Root brought energy to Druid City Music Hall on Thursday.

Elliot Root, based out of Nashville, Tenn., serenaded the sold-out crowd with their free-flowing track “10,000.” Concertgoers passionately reciprocated the lyrics. Their new album, “Conjure,” is available now.

After a spirited performance by Elliot Root, Rainbow Kitten Surprise took to the stage for an evening of their Appalachian-inspired indie sounds.

The band didn’t save their hits for last, however, as they opened with favorites “Devil Like Me” and “Seven.”

Rainbow Kitten Surprise began their fall tour in Bristol, Tenn. this September, and will close the tour this Tuesday, Oct. 24 in Boulder, Co. Though the band hails from a college town in the mountains of Boone, N.C., their fan base has skyrocketed in response to the band’s thoughtful lyrics.

The atmosphere in Druid City was a balance between the tranquility of the band’s on-stage ease, and the energy of the earnest lyrics sung by nearly everyone in the room.

Closing with “Run”, the band’s off-kilter rock ‘n’ roll jam, the crowd let loose under a lengthy guitar solo, literally felt through the core of every person who banged their head along.
