What: The University of Alabama administers thousands of free flu shots each year in an effort to keep its community healthy. The free flu shot campaign will resume this week, embarking on its sixth year.

When: Thursday, Sept. 7, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Where: North Lawn Hall

Who: Free flu shots are offered by the College of Community Health Sciences to all students and employees.

Nurses from the Student Health Center, UA Medical Center, and Capstone College of Nursing will administer the flu shots.

Why: “You want to take every opportunity to protect yourself, as we do know that flu shots work to lower the risk of getting influenza,” Dr. Richard Streiffer, dean of CCHS told UA News. “If we can vaccinate enough people in the community and especially at and around the UA campus, and in our families and social circles, we are starting to create a ‘herd immunity,’ which is a more effective way to protect yourself and those around you.”

No insurance is required for the free shots. All that students and employees need to provide is their CWID.

Flu shots are offered a couple of times a week throughout the semester at various times and campus locations. For more information on alternate times to receive a flu shot, members of the UA community can visit http://cchs.ua.edu/flushot
