Alabama soccer fell to the University of South Florida in overtime on Thursday, Aug. 24.
Alabama soccer continued its winning ways with a dominant 3-1 road victory over Kennesaw State University on Thursday night.
The Crimson Tide started pouring it on early and often, with junior Abbie Boswell finding the net on a throw-in from Kaley Verpaele within the first two minutes of play. Boswell’s score marked her third of the season. It took less than 15 minutes for Alabama to strike again, building on its 1-0 lead. Alabama’s second goal came off the foot of freshman Taylor Morgan, who also recorded her third goal of the season. Celia Jimenez Delgado and Emma Welch both received credit for the assist on Morgan’s goal.
Alabama carried a 2-0 lead in to halftime, but quickly added to it in the second half of action. In the 47th minute, redshirt freshman Chloe Maize netted her first career goal on an assist from junior Emma Welch to put the Crimson Tide up 3-0.
Throughout the game, Alabama applied attacking pressure on the Owls defense, putting up 18 shots, nine of which were on goal.
It appeared as if Alabama was going to walk away with a shutout until Abby Roth from Kennesaw State scored in the 85th minute of action. Kennesaw State’s goal was simply too little, too late, leaving Alabama with a still impressive 3-1 win over the previously undefeated Owls. Thursday’s triumph gave Alabama its fourth consecutive win over Kennesaw State in series history.
Looking to pick up its seventh win of the season, Alabama returns to Tuscaloosa to face Tennessee Tech on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 5 p.m.
