Alleged felon escapes jail

A man who allegedly tried to kill a Florence, Alabama, police detective escaped from jail this weekend.

Christopher Kilpatrick, 43, escaped late Saturday from the Lauderdale County Detention Center. Kilpatrick, who is described as white, six feet tall and 160 pounds, was last seen in Florence heading south on Seminary Street, AL.com reports.

According to authorities, he should be considered armed and dangerous.

In August of 2016, Kilpatrick allegedly pointed his gun at Detective Michael Price. AL.com reports that Kilpatrick allegedly escaped from work release and stole a truck from Jacksonburg Church of Christ. After a Florence officer spotted the truck, Price responded as backup.

When Kilpatrick tried to flee the scene, Price followed. There was allegedly a struggle in which Kilpatrick pointed his gun at Price. Price then shot Kilpatrick in the abdomen.

An internal review said Price acted appropriately, according to AL.com.

A grand jury indicted Kilpatrick in December of 2016. At the time of his escape, Kilpatrick was awaiting trial and being held without bail.

Anyone with information regarding Kilpatrick should notify authorities immediately.
