Great Tuscaloosa Chili Cookoff returnsBy Mike Finnegan | 02/09/2017 12:04am
The Exchange Club of Tuscaloosa will host its 11th annual Great Tuscaloosa Chili Cookoff this Saturday at the Bryant Conference Center from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door for $10 with children 6 years old and younger being admitted for free.
The event will consist of a chili competition, in addition to competitions for booth decorations, costumes and showmanship. The winner of the chili competition will be awarded by a panel of judges, although there will also be a popular vote by the attendees.
There are 32 teams currently registered for the event and over 1000 people are supposed to attend, according to the event chairman Glen Smith.
Tuscaloosa News reported that there are currently 50 sponsors for the cookoff, which is where most of the proceeds come from.
All proceeds from the event go directly to the Exchange Club, which donates the money to prevent child abuse and help the local community.
“We use every nickel to help the community,” Smith said to the Tuscaloosa News. “It’s a lot of fun and it’s for a worthy cause.”
