Severe weather possible in coming daysBy Rebecca Rakowitz | 01/19/2017 12:12am
The National Weather Service and its storm prediction center have put Alabama under a marginal risk of severe weather for Thursday. Isolated severe storms with damaging winds, hail and brief, isolated tornadoes are possible.
Severe weather could begin as early as Thursday afternoon, starting in west Alabama and moving eastward through Friday morning, according to AL.com.
The National Weather Service also predicts there may be a more substantial threat for severe weather over the weekend. Alabama could see tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds on Saturday and Sunday.
Timings and locations of the potential weekend storms are not yet exact, but south and south-central Alabama will likely be hit hardest. The degree of north Alabama's threat will depend on how far north the warm sector travels on Sunday.
More will be known about the storms in the coming days, so members of the University of Alabama community are encouraged to stay tuned to local weather sources.
