Trump names more cabinet selectionsBy Mike Finnegan | 01/13/2017 1:31pm
Keeping his transition moving, President-elect Donald Trump named Steven Mnuchin as his pick for secretary of the treasury, Wilbur Ross for secretary of commerce, Elaine Chao for secretary of transportation and Tom Price for secretary of health and human services.
Mnuchin has received considerable attention given his extensive Wall Street and Hollywood career. He began at Goldman Sachs, eventually making his way up to partner, before moving on to start his own hedge fund and then moving on to finance big-name films like Avatar and X-Men. Following the 2008 financial crisis, Mnuchin received criticism from fair housing groups after he purchased a failing bank and then missed legal obligations on foreclosures and providing loans to minorities. Mnuchin has a history of business dealings with Trump and financed one of his buildings.
Representative Price, a Republican from Georgia, is a long-known opponent of the Affordable Care Act, and gained influence as a billionaire investor. Chao, the wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, has long held posts in Washington, serving both in Congress and as secretary of labor under President George W. Bush.
The New York Times reported that Trump is considering Mitt Romney for secretary of state. Romney and Trump dined at Trump Tower in Manhattan on Tuesday, and the former Republican nominee is reportedly competing with former New York mayor Rudy Guiliani for the job.
