University to hold family weekend

University to hold family weekend

Who: The First Year Experience division of student affairs is hosting its annual Family Weekend. FYE helps students transition into social and academic life at The University of Alabama.

What: Family Weekend invites families of students to visit the University of Alabama . Family members who have purchased a Family Weekend package will gain admission to the Beach Bash, the Family Weekend Tailgate, and the Student Affairs Jazz Brunch.

Family Weekend invites families of students to the University of Alabama to connect them with other families and spend time with their students. This weekend, families can attend informational sessions about their student’s college in addition to social events. Family members will also have the chance to meet the members of faculty that their students interact with daily. 

When: Friday, Sept. 23 through Sunday, Sept. 25

There will be one event from the Family Weekend package each day this weekend. The Beach Bash will be Friday, Sept. 23 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Family Weekend Tailgate at Presidential Park will be on Saturday from 8:30-11 a.m. and conclude Sunday with the Jazz Brunch at Fresh Food Company from 10 a.m. –– 1 p.m.

Where: Different colleges will hold events at the halls that they reside in throughout the weekend in addition to the three events included in the Family Weekend package.

“It’s really important [to invite parents] so that they feel involved with their students’ academic experience and journey here at UA,” said Leanne Mallory, assistant director, First Year Experience and Parent Programs.
