The University of Alabama is encouraging members of its faculty and staff to live a healthier lifestyle with its new StriveForFive initiative.

WHO: All Faculty and Staff are invited to participate in the program created by the University’s Office of Health Promotion and Wellness. Those interested in joining will be able to pick up registration packets as well as receive tips on ways to be successful during the event.

WHAT:  StriveForFive is a virtual, five-week program that is available to faculty and staff members on campus. The event is geared toward helping participants, either in a group or individually, make small changes that will have lasting, positive effects on their health.

Once registered, participants will commit to at least two of the five “Strive to” activities. Included are: eating five servings of fruits and vegetables each day, drinking five cups of water per day, thinking five mindful minutes per day, moving five days per week for 30 or more minutes and losing and maintaining five pounds.

WHEN: Registration for the program will take place on Sept. 1 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Sept. 2  from 9 a.m. – noon.
The program participation dates are set to run from Sept. 6 through Oct. 7.

WHERE: Registration for StriveForFive will take place on the quad. After participants are register, the rest of the program is done online through a computer or smart phone.

Believe it or not, professors and other staff face many of the same struggles as students do when it comes to keeping their personal health at the top of the priority list. StriveForFive seeks to help University employees solve this ever-present problem.
