Wednesday marked day two of the 2016 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships in Missouri, and the Alabama men’s team are in fourth place, only one point out away from third.

“With our performance to this point, we’re positioned well in the team standings in this meet and more importantly in our preparation for the NCAA Championships,” coach Dennis Pursley said.

The 200 freestyle relay team made up of freshman Laurent Bams, senior Brett Walsh, sophomore Luke Kaliszak and junior Kristian Gkolomeev finished third.

In the 50 freestyle, the Crimson Tide had six finish in the top 16. Gkolomeev finished fourth and Walsh finished eighth.

On the diving side, junior Dylan Marin finished eighth and earned a spot in the championship for the one-meter springboard.

Sophomore Christopher Reid finished 10th in the 200 individual medley. He also finished with a personal record.

The women, who were also in action on Wednesday, finished 11th.

Junior Bridget Blood finished 24th in the 200 individual medley. She also had a personal best in the preliminaries.

The 200 freestyle relay team, made up of sophomore Temarie Tomley, senior Emma Saunders, freshman Morgan Fleming and senior Justine Panian, finished seventh overall.

In the 50 freestyle Fleming took 22nd and Panian finished 24th, both finishing with personal bests.

“Our women are heading into some of our stronger events, we’re definitely better in the second half of this schedule,” Pursley said. “We’ve had some good solid swims, but we’re not hitting on all cylinders quite yet, but we’ve got our best swims ahead of us.”
