The Alabama baseball team hosted Nicholls State Wednesday night for a midweek matchup at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The Crimson Tide had a big night offensively, recording 20 hits, in route to a 13-1 victory.

“We had production all the way through the lineup. I thought our bench players came in and played well. There wasn’t a whole lot to not like about tonight,” coach Mitch Gaspard said. “It was a pretty good team effort everywhere.”

The Crimson Tide had a fast start, scoring two runs in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings. It wasn’t until the eighth inning when it added its five remaining runs to the scoreboard. Alabama made the Colonels go through eight of their pitchers during the process, as every starter for the Crimson Tide reached base.

Alabama freshman Chandler Taylor may have had the best night going 5-5 with 2 RBIs.

“We saw balls in the strike zone and we made them pay for it,” Taylor said. “That’s been the MO all week.”

On the pitching side, redshirt junior Mike Oczypok recorded his first win since the 2013 season. Oczypok had a Tommy John surgery on March 18, 2014, forcing him to sit out that season along with the next season getting a redshirt.

“It’s truly a blessing. The last two years have been a long road, but it’s so worth it now,” Oczypok said. “It’s such a cool feeling to be back out there.”

Alabama will return to the field on Friday when it hosts North Dakota State for a three-game series throughout the weekend.
