Library Support Staff Association hosts annual Toys for Tots Drive

The holiday season is one of giving, and the Library Support Staff Association is helping the University community do just that by hosting their 13th annual Toys for Tots Drive.

Toys for Tots is a national charity founded by the U.S. Marine Corps that collects toys for less fortunate children during the holiday season. They do this in order to send a message of hope to children, hoping that message will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.

Rose Loucks, a member of the LSSA and the main contact for the drive, said this drive is a community project that has come to define their organization.

“It is a great way to give back and any participation is greatly appreciated,” Loucks said.

The goal for this year’s drive is around 300 toys, a number that has been surpassed in previous years.

Donations can be brought to labeled collection boxes in Bruno, Gorgas, Hoole, McLure and Rodgers Libraries and the Women and Gender Resource Center from now until Dec. 12.

The toys can be for boys, girls or neutral, big or small, so long as they are unused. They must be new, unwrapped and should be appropriate for children ages zero to 13. The toys will then be distributed to needy children in Tuscaloosa.
