Volleyball splits the weekend on the road

The volleyball team spent the weekend on the road, playing in two separate states, to split the weekend.

The weekend started with a loss when the Crimson Tide got swept, 3-0, at Texas A&M  on Friday afternoon.

The first set against the Aggies was back-and-forth. It started with Alabama leading 4-2. After that, neither team would pull more than two points ahead through the rest of set one. In the end, that two-point lead was all the Aggies needed to win set one, 25-22.

It wasn’t nearly as back-and-forth during set two. There were only three times the teams were tied and the lead changed twice. Alabama started the set off with the lead, but as soon as the Aggies tied it 4-4 they took and held the lead for the rest of the game, finishing it off 25-21.

For the third set, it was all Aggies. They started with the lead, held it and finished with it 25-21.

Krystal Rivers led Alabama with 13 kills. At libero, Natalie Murison had 11 digs, and at setter, Sierra Wilson had 37 assists.

On Sunday, Alabama won the match after being behind 2-1. It finished with a 3-2 victory over LSU.

After a lot of back-and-forth in set one, LSU pulled through after nine tie scores and five lead changes, 25-19. Within set two, LSU would tie the score up but never fully took the lead. Alabama won 25-22.

Alabama was behind 10-6 during set three. It took a timeout, but soon after, LSU held the lead, 15-11, Alabama slowly decreased the score deficit. The teams were tied 20-20, and LSU scored three back-to-back points to take a 23-20 lead then soon after, finished it 25-22.

Down 2-1 in the match, Alabama fought with the Tigers during set four. The Crimson Tide was ahead 21-14 and after a LSU timeout, it finished the set off with a 25-16 victory, forcing LSU into a fifth set.

That fourth match swung momentum in Alabama’s favor for set five. It took the lead right from the start and kept it until the end where it won 15-4, giving Alabama an overall 3-2 match victory.

Rivers and Kat Hutson led Alabama with 21 kills each. Murison had 23 digs and Wilson had 63 assists.

Alabama (9-11, 3-3 SEC) will host Kentucky on Friday and Georgia on Sunday in Foster Auditorium.
