Volleyball falls to Kentucky

The Alabama volleyball team (7-10, 1-2 SEC) played four sets Sunday afternoon against Kentucky. The score was back and forth during each set, but in the end, Kentucky pulled through with a 3-1 win.

During its first set, Alabama had the lead at 12-10 but then Kentucky took the lead back at 14-13. Once it took the lead, it kept it. The Wildcats stayed at least two points ahead, finishing it off 25-19.

Sophomore Emily Stebbins pulled Alabama ahead, 2-1, right away during the second set. Kentucky pulled ahead and stayed ahead until Alabama fought back to tie it up at 18-18. Although the two passed the 25-point mark, Kentucky came out on top and won, 27-25, give it a 2-0 set lead.

Kentucky went into the third set with momentum. Alabama trailed 8-1 early on. It clawed its way back and tied it up at 13-13 and then again at 24-24. With back-to-back kills by junior Brittany Thomas, Alabama won set three, 26-24, preventing Kentucky’s sweep.

The fourth set was a lot like the first and second set. Each point was a battle and neither team could get more than a one-point lead. Kentucky was first to break the trend and set the score at 11-9. The teams were tied up, 19-19, but Kentucky got on a roll and won, 25-20.

Sophomore Kat Huston led the team with 20 kills, followed by Thomas with 12 kills and 13 digs. Senior Sierra Wilson had 43 assists and 12 digs. Sophomore Natalie Murison had 13 digs at libero. With her second start of the year, Stebbins had a career-best and team-leading four blocks.

Alabama’s next match is Sunday at 4 p.m. against Missouri in Foster Auditorium.
