Gorgas employee survives Boston Marathon explosions

The head of The University of Alabama’s Gorgas Information Services was a registered runner in the Boston Marathon Monday afternoon and crossed the finish line at 1:55 p.m. ET, escaping injury an hour before the two bombs that injured at least 100 and killed at least three people at the time of publication exploded.

Nancy Fawley, the administrator and Northport, Ala., resident, updated her Facebook hours after the blasts to let friends and family know she was not injured.

“Thanks for everyone’s concern,” her post said. “I am fine, I was walking back to my hotel when I heard the explosions. The hotel I am in was not evacuated, but we are under lockdown.”

The time for Fawley’s finish was posted on the Boston Marathon’s webpage, raceday.baa.org/individual, which allows users to search for individual runners and track their progress.

Fawley could not be reached for comment by press time.
